Your imagination needs something to work on. The more interesting memories you have, the more data your imagination has to draw on.

It's a good quote, its meaning is concerned with our imagination like a CPU of knowledge, values and aesthetics from which they might not function powerfully enough unless the memory is precise or retrievable regarding our past experience. Therefore, Ms Tan is quite right and this reminds us of the importance of imagination via the supporting info from our memory.
