Pores don't open and close. In your boyfriend's case, he probably has larger pores. My boyfriend does too. For him, it's due to oily but dehydrated skin. To help him, I give him a facial every Sunday afternoon. But he should probably cleanse, tone and moisturise at least once a day. Use a foaming facial wash, which will help to dry out the oily skin. Then get him to use a pore-tightening toner, like one of the Loreal ones. He should also moisturise with an oil-free moisturiser. Loreal has a men's range, called Men Expert, which has an oil free moisturiser which is very nice.
If he doesn't shave, he should also exfoliate twice a week. Natio for Men have a nice, gentle scrub that won't be too rough on his skin if he does shave.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Lay him back in the recliner or on the sofa and give him a fabulous facial.
1. first a gentle scrub.
2. Put vaseline on his face.
3.Heat a wet hand towel in the microwave for 20-30 seconds (depending how much he likes heat) Lay it on his face. This will soak in the Vaseline and clean the pores. Clean his face down with the hot towel.
4.Now lay a wet cold towel on his face to help close the pores.
This will not be a permanent fix. His pores are made the way they are. But it will help temporarily for special occasions.
We all have some flaws that we just have to deal with.
Good Luck. Promise him a reward if he sits for the facial.

Use all natural ingredients (from your cupboard or fridge) to help reduce large pores. Large pores in the skin can be attributed to genetics, acne and other factors. There is no permanent cure to reduce the size, only temporary measures to shrink to pore to give your skin a tighter younger looking feel.
Ingredients
1 tbsp. of sugar
1 tbsp. of honey
1 tbsp. of olive oil
Steps
Mix all of the ingredients well.
Wet your face.
Apply the mixture by rubbing very gently in a circular motion.
Rinse with water.
Pat your face dry!
you can get all kinda info like that at wikihow.com....

My advice...Stop the breakouts and use something that is actually good for your skin. I have been using Nu Skin Clear Action® and it doesn't compare to any other. My skin chemistry changes all of the time and I still never have a problem.
It will also help with the pore size.

I've heard that after washing with warm water, follow with cold water. Pores don't close permantely, they becomes smaller, so you can't really noticed, but do not close.

U CAN NEVER CLOSE PORES PERMANENTLY. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE A VITAL PART OF OUR SKIN. THEY GET RID OF THE OIL AND IMPURITIES IN OUR SKIN AND THEY ALLOW OXYGEN INTO THE SKIN. THE REASON YOUR BF HAS LARGE PORES IS BECAUSE HE HAS OILY SKIN. GET HIM TO USE A CLEANSER, MOISTURISER, SCRUB AND MASK FOR OILY SKIN.(SPEAK TO A SKIN CARE CONSULTANT) THIS WILL HELP SHRINK THE PORES, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY CLOSE THEM. GOOD LUCK
