Actually it depends,
Some companies or ebay sellers usually set the parts in the box, because shipping would cost more, Also!
Its a good idea to ask this question personally to the person or company you will/are buying from.

=D

Some do and some don't. Although they might say that they assemble the machine, what you want is for it to be set up, which is completly different. Two shops that do are:

Paulscycle.com

and

Evancycles.com

However, it might still be worth taking the machine to your local bike shop, throwing £20 at them and getting it set up for you.

I did with mine, even though it was set up before shipping.

I recently bought a bike online. It came in one box but needed assembly. My local bike shop was happy to do it for me for $40 and then sold me pedals and shoes.

Most of the time the bike will be shipped in one box and will be in three different pieces, Frame , Wheels, and handle bars all in one box and that's what you have to put together. the cables, derailleurs, shifters and such will already be mounted or put together. It's a very simple process to put the bike together or put it in working order.
By having it shipped in one box it cuts down on cost and loss of parts.

Yes, "U" have to put it together. Either that or "U" need to take it to a bike shop and pay them $60 to build it for you.

If you can't assemble a sentence, I doubt you could properly assemble a bicycle.

It would need a tune-up for sure after a few good rides to re-set everything and depending on the place sending it it may need a full tune-up from the get go.

most of the time, there are parts you have to install like the wheels, pedals, straightening the stem, small things like that. other than that everything should be set, unless your like me and you buy all your parts separately, in that case, you can have fun and build it all.

There usually is some minor assembly, but nothing too difficult.
