I do not understand why someone has to be offensive when providing their viewpoints on questions relating to Christianity. I try very hard not to be hostile or offensive with anyone's question here no matter the subject matter.

I strive to be polite and express myself as intelligently as possible without becoming personal or vindictive. Isn't that the way it ought to be in a question/answer board. Couldn't the rudeness be dropped along with the sarcasm that one could actually learn from another no matter their belief system? Aren't the majority of us more intelligent than some of the postings I've seen on here. I am sincerely interested in others' viewpoints?

LOL, am I alone in this? What happened to civility?

I completely agree with you, unfortunately this is what our world is coming to. The days of meaningful discussion and learning are over replaced with bickering and hostile attacks. You are very right.

So many people are attacked by Christians both online and in the real world. I'm told nearly daily that I'm going to hell and so are my children. Christians claiming that they are peaceful and loving can really sound hypocritical and is really annoying. So many times Athesists, Pagans and other religions are slammed for evolution and we are so often accused of doing the devil's work when we don't even believe in a devil, the Christian subject matter can get our hackles up. Some people come here looking for a fight, some of us just come to read the fights, and some of us start out being neutral and polite and just get so sick of the dogmatic nastiness that we fall prey to the aggression and go off. It is no excuse, but I wanted you to understand why it happens and that most of us don't mean it and don't even do it that often.

Being an ethnic minority is difficult, but being of a minority religion brings about many of the same reactions from people. Normal, intelligent people do/say insulting, careless, hurtful and just plain odd things for no apparent reason when they discover you are of a different religion. They may not realize it, but many of them just can't seem to stop themselves.

American culture has discussed its many problems with racial tension, but those same people that preach tolerance and brotherly love haven't addressed religious differences in their minds. I have had neighbors of years suddenly not speak to me because they discovered I wasn't Christian. They had been taught that being good and doing good was the Christian thing to do... therefore, not being Christian, I became "bad". When I approached them and asked why they no longer speak to me or even say hello, most didn't even realize that they were suddenly treating me differently. Some adjusted, some did not.

My family came to this country about 120 years ago. They left their home because of wars and each place that they tried to settle in became dangerous because either they were of the wrong ethnicity or of the wrong religion. Finally, they came to the land of opportunity and they made new and prosperous lives. I can't imagine what my grandfather would say if he heard a newscaster proclaim that this is a Christian country. I think he would be sadly planning our family's next stop. It may not be felt by many Christians, but by not rebuking that statement, non-Christians are made to feel very unwelcome here.

Civility is necessary for discussion and understanding. Although you strive for it, it is not the norm in the real world.

-well wishes

because it is the one true religion and the Devil hates it with all his being. If atheists ever get offended by having someone tell them they will go to Hell, it would be better for them to know the truth than to die and know they were believing a lie but it's too late to change. Sometimes, if an atheist insults a believer, a christian sadly will do the same thing back to the person.

I see that you are fairly new to this site. It can be very rude and insulting. Some people like to bash Christians because that is the only way they can bash God. Sunday nights are the worse.

Because some of your fellow Christians are offensive to us, and it made us feel bad :(

The Gospel is an offense to those who are perishing.

People fear what they do not know. Civility, like most instances of chivalry, appears to be dying.
