It is always the respectable/right thing to tell the truth when someone asks for it. Sugarcoating the answer to make the person feel good is quite an injustice to that person. The person who asked the question is who you should watch out for. Some people who are immature and/or looking for attention might ask a question with the answer they WANT already in their head. When they get an answer they didn't want, they're hurt and/or angry. It is then that you should ask them "Why did you even ask the question if you didn't want the truthful answer? Did you want me to lie to you?"
I don't think it's a great thing to tell a white lie but we all do it. For example, if someone called you three days ago and you just weren't up to talking to that person for a few days so you didn't call them back right away, and when you finally did call them you say "Sorry it took me a while to get back to you - I've just been so busy the last few days that I didn't get a chance to call you back", instead of, " I got your message a few days ago but I really haven't felt like talking to you so that's the reason I didn't call you back right away." I mean, I'll admit, I'd tell the white lie in that situation as to not hurt the person's feelings.

I think that all lies are lies. People should be able to hear the truth without getting angry, especially when they've asked for an opinion. Unfortunately, this is not how the world works at all, so be prepared to endure a lot of anger if you go on telling people the truth.

I don't know. I know that some people want you to lie to them. I used to have a friend that would ask how do I look? Well she was 5feet and 250pds. soooo. Well I would tell her the truth. Once we were looking for bathing suits. Oh my. She walks out of the dressing room in a bikini that was was way to small. I told her maybe a one piece would look better and she got mad.

If you notice, people like to hang out with people who think just like they do. There is safety in numbers - if everyone I associate with thinks just like I do - then we can't all be wrong so we must all be right. But when you are forced by circumstances to have to associate with people, (that due to family gatherings, career networking, client relations, etc) that don't exactly feel and think like you do on certain subjects then of course you make them upset by voicing a contrary opinion - you broke the rhythm of the ego stoke, you are not conforming to the majority and so you must be isolated, discredited and exiled. I fail to understand why people feel so threatened by a differing view, why they so desperately need to feel so superior that they resort to the lowest levels of human decency to impose their school of thought. They will piss on your boots, expect you to believe it is rain and will become indignantly angry because you are intelligent enough to not be fooled!!! Don't ask questions if you don't want the answers. I do not feel qualified in giving advice concerning "white lies". I have on numerous occasions told a "white lie" and felt perfectly justified (and still do) although I will have to admit that not everyone concerned felt the same way. The best advice, always has been and always will be, just follow your heart.

why tell white lies then this program becomes meaningless.
many people don't want the truth ,they are happier with comfortable lies they can believe in
i had this all the time with answering where Santa Claus came from (the Christmas man from Lapland.not the Turkish Saint Nicolas )
people were rude and called me an idiot and a liar
the truth was their objective but when they heard it they could not handle it
blaming me for telling them andgetting angry for my effort to educate them.
ridiculous .some times i wonder why we bother to be informative
