The only way you can know for sure if you have strep throat is to go to the doctor and the doctor will examine your throat. If they think it's possible they will take a throat culture. It is painless:
just a q-tip to the area and it will be tested and you will know. In the meantime you some throat spray with a numbing agent, lozenges and drink some warm tea. Also you can gargle with warm salt water, it doesn't taste good but it will help. Feel better soon.

You could have strep throat. It's impossible to know for sure without a throat culture. Do you feel achey? My ENT always said when you have strep throat, you feel like a truck ran over you. Did you look at the back of your throat and at your tonsils, if you still have them? With strep you will see white patches in those areas. Ask your mom or dad to look for you if you can't see back there using a flashlight.

Keep taking tylenol for the pain, or ibuprofen which might help a bit more. Gargle with warm salt water. Sip on cool liquids to help keep the inflammation down. Sleep up on 2 pillows to help keep the swelling in your throat down. If you have some zinc lozenges or some Zicam in the house, you should start on that, in case this is the beginnings of a cold. In the morning if it's still hurting as much, or sooner if your swallowing gets worse, you should go see the doctor so you can start on antibiotics, if necessary.

With strep throat, you will start feeling better after 3 days because it will have run the acute course. But, if you have heart problems, or if your system is compromised at all, you can run into serious problems if the strep bacteria circulates through your body. It's a very serious bacteria and should not be ignored. So be sure you're telling your parents how badly you feel.

Hope you feel better soon.

The only way to tell the difference is to have a throat culture done. But, why don't you just go to your doctor for a check-up on the throat. Not only are you sick, but being cooped up on a plane to Paris with 300 other passengers and recirculated air is going to make half of them sick, too. Get Chloriseptic for the throat pain and get to the doctor. Strep throat is potentially serious, as the infection is staph, which can move to the heart if not taken care of. Good luck and Bon Voyage!

The problem with symptoms is that there are only so many your body can have (sore throat, headache, nausea, fatigue, etc.) so each can indicate a number of different illnesses. You could have strep, or you could have the flu or you could have a sinus infection or you could have a virus. The only way to tell for sure if you have strep is to have your doctor take a throat culture. Sleep as much as you can this evening and have your parents take you to the doctor tomorrow. Feel better! I was sick all last week so I know what you're going through!

If you are feeling that bad, you should tell your folks and have one of them take you to the doctor's office tomorrow morning. The doctor will then take a swab of your throat and run a culture to verify whether or not you indeed have strep throat. In the meantime, he will probably prescribe something (perhaps an antibiotic) and/or recommend that you take something like Extra Strength Tylenol for pain. It doesn't occur to most people that a sore throat is a pain like any other physical discomfort. Because of your age, however, I do not recommend aspirin because of the risk of Reye's Syndrome. Hope you feel better soon!

firstly, for being 10 and punctuating: you are AMAZING.

I think you might have strep throat, I usually got the same signs before, I think you should just relax a bit and sleep off the throat problem.

Usually when I get strep I just let it pass by and don't go to the doctors [ I hate the throat culture!! And I'm 18.] The whole you get worse thing isn't true.

Try some hard candy like a jolly rancher or a caramel, somthing not chewy but you can just suck on it so yous till get the juices to taste stuff rather than feeling gross.

PLEASE try these 3 remedies...EVERY time I feel run-down or get that tickly feeling in my throat I take these 3 things and it NEVER turns into a full-blown cold.

1) Herb Pharm Olive Leaf Extract in tincture form:
This is the one I buy -

http://www.nextag.com/Herb-Pharm-Olive-Leaf-66659849/prices-html

2) "JarrowDophilus", by "Jarrow Formulas"...it will keep the healthy "flora" in your body in perfect balance which keeps your immune system strong.

3) "Emergen-C" Vitamin C packets by "Alacer"

All three can be purchased at "Whole Foods Market", possibly "Trader Joe's", or call your local health food store to inquire about these 3 products.

EVERY friend and family member who has taken this advice, hardly ever gets sick.

For your throat: "Peaceful Mountain--Throat Rescue"
You will NEVER find a more powerful throat spray which is all-natural....soothing, fast acting, and kills bad bacteria on contact.

Cayenne Pepper in capsules (or sprinkled on soup) helps greatly with congestion AND is also an immune systen booster too....and drink lots of organic green tea to help your energy levels.

You'll see!! :) Get well soon!

Relax. It is only a mild viral infection. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Do you have white spots in your throat? If not, it's probably not strep. I'd say that if you don't feel better in the next day or so, and/or you develop a temp above 100, go see a doctor for a culture.

No fever+no spots=go to school tomorrow! Sorry. :(
