I have gone to a lot of grief support groups because I have lost both of my children. The grief is so overwhelming, and it has to either come out or destroy you. If you hold grief in, you are a prime candidate for heart problems, suicide, high blood pressure, and other things. If you let it out, you will release emotions that can cause those things. Have you ever heard of someone grieving themselves to death? It happens. Those people didn't know how to release the emotions that they felt. They held them all inside. My friend, whose daughter was murdered, drove to a remote area and beat the daylights out of the steering wheel of the car she was driving. But, she released some of the grief and pain. Then she formed a grief support group and taught others how and why they should let their emotions out. She is a survivor. I've known many that have lost their children (and other loved ones) that held it all in. They have lost jobs, their health has gone downhill fast, and their relationships have suffered.

anytime you hold in bad emotions and don't vent your frustrations it can lead to some bad stuff like the other day I was pissed off at my step dad that I almost broke my hand because I was punching stuff like my dresser and the kitchen table, but when I talked about it to my sister I felt so much better. So if you hold in your bad emotions too long you could end up doing serious damage to yourself or others

The 'alternative' he spoke of means that keeping your emotions bottled up inside of you can cause you not only emotion stress, but physical stress as well. This can lead to higher blood pressure, heart attack as well as emotional turmoil.

Keeping everything bottled up means you might explode without warning, at an inconvenient time or place. You need to deal with issues as they come up, not push them to the side and pretend like they don't exist.
