We are nowhere near that number, of course. At the time the war began, I head estimates as high as 30,000 U.S. deaths in the invasion of Iraq. Everyone was grateful that the death toll was nowhere near that.
This is a war that should never have been fought. It is the biggest foreign policy error in the history of our country.
What do we do now? Can we just leave? We destroyed the government, and much of the infrastructure, and it is still in shambles. It's sort of like the sign in the china shop "You Broke it, You Bought It." I do believe, that, in the end, we will leave Iraq defeated.

I would have stopped THIS war long before Haliburton had lost its FIRST 5 BILLION DOLLARS--- that would have been somewhere around the time that we learned that there were NO WMDs and never had been any---- and around the time we had lost somewhere around 350 military personnel ---- that ---right there would have been the point that I would have said--- cut this sucker and --- let's move on !!!
But, Now we are poised for IRAN and I am deathly afraid that the figure you have tossed out here--- may be more accurate given some two or three years hence--- than a lot of people realize at this point !!
One such loss of this magnatude was quite enough --- at least for this individual--- just thanking God every day that I wasn't listed on that list---- but the wall still stands as a reminder---people just don't see it as such --- and sadly don't remember much about that level of pain and loss that is so easily chaulked up to "history" these days--- what is the saying about --- those who do not learn from the past ___________??

is there an acceptable number? would you have placed ONE person in harms way to fight ANYONE?

How many are acceptable in Afghanistan? Is it wrong to kill Afghans/Taliban? How many men would die before you complained about a war against Nazis?

The fact is that you just hate W and no matter what happens you will spout off.

We are at war. Killed soldiers are the unfortunate by product of said war. If we pull out of Iraq and it goes to hell, what will you do when Al Qada shows up at your front door? I know! Cry that we pulled out of Iraq to soon and it's all Bush's fault. There is no right answer with you is there?

At the present casualty rate, we would have been at war for 100 years by then, so, yes, I think it probably would be time to throw in the towel.

Well...If it were up to ME (not that anyone reading your question could stop the war if they wanted) I would have stopped it long before that figure!

Republicans would just say...Hey we lost more than that in WWII so STAY THE COURSE!!! ROFL!

And how does one draw the conclusion that we pulling out of Iraq means Alqaida is going to suddenly show up on my front door????

No. As a Viet Nam vet, the number you reference in your question is obvious.

The simple fact is that we can only lose if we give up. This is as true today as it ever was.
This time, however, the consequences may not only be felt on the other side of the world.
