There are 3 kinds of blood vessels.

1. The arteries take blood fresh with oxygen to the body from the heart. (with the exception of pulmonary arteries and veins which are the opposite).

2. Capilaries are where the exchange of nutrients and gasses occurs between the cells and blood. They are narrow thin vessels.

3. Veins are the where the blood flows back to the heart after the oxygen has been taken. Veins have a very high carbon dioxide content.
