Please do not listen to anyone who tells you to lose five pounds a week; at your weight (which is not much over where you should be), that is an extremely unhealthy goal. The closer you are to "normal", the slower your weight loss will generally be, and that is a GOOD thing.
It's hard to say what your ideal is, since we can't see you/don't know your body fat percentage, etc. And it's best to consult a doctor before starting any diet or lifestyle change, anyway.
However, according to the BMI charts, which are a very general estimate, you are just barely overweight. Your maximum healthy weight, according to this, should be 140 pounds. So you don't have much to lose at all, to be considered in the healthy range. If you have a small-to-medium frame--if you have "fine bones"--you may want to lose around 15-20 pounds, tops.
And please don't try to lose more than 2-3 pounds per week; the faster you lose it, the more likely that you'll regain, because you'll just go back to old, less-healthy habits.
The best thing for you to do, in my opinion, is simply concentrate on eating WELL. Eat as little junk food and empty calories as possible, and concentrate on a balanced diet with plenty of protein and fiber. Mom was right; vegetables are good for you! And also exercise; this is super-important for your overall wellbeing.
I really recommend the weight-control website "Three Fat Chicks On a Diet". It's free, no strings attached. The forums there are full of great information that will help you reach your ideal weight, and improve your health, and the people are very friendly. Hope to see you there!

First of all, you don't need to lose weight I don't think. 5'3 and 143 sounds healthy!!!!
But if you are stressin and you just want to (which every woman does pretty much) here is what worked for me... First of all , if you're on birth control, I would use a different method, because it is a serious cause of weight gain for most women (myself included). I lost 7 pounds like it was nothing just going off it.
Second, if you drink... stop. Obviously a drink here and there isn't bad, but it is really bad for your metabolism and your body in general. It's a toxin, and it's gonna screw up your body. Again, stopping drinking allowed me to lose a lot of weight easily.
Third, all you have to do is cut down portions and don't eat out. Restaurants serve such huge portions that of course you're going to eat it all. Cooking at home is so much easier when you're dieting. Once your portions go down, you won't have cravings to eat as much as you did before.
And last, of course, exercise. Take the stairs. Go for a walk with your dog (if you have one). You don't need to run on a treadmill for half an hour, especially because in my opinion you aren't fat. Just keep your metabolism up a bit =)
I hope this helped! The first two are what really worked for me, and then naturally, the last two followed.

This site is a great way to find out what a healthy weight would be for your height. Right now you would be considered slightly over weight but you are sitting right on the line. Best way to lose weight is a healthy diet; 3 meals a day that consist of a meat, veg/fruit, and a starch. Lots of water and an hour work out everyday. Let your body loss weight at what ever rate is natural. This site also provides info on how to control your weight, recipes for healthy foods all kinds of good info on how to have a healthy weight. Good luck.

For your height you should weigh between 111-147. So technically you are at a healthy weight. If you do want to tone up and lose a few pounds though I suggest: Cutting back on Junk foods, Stop drinking soda (if you must drink diet), Drink lots of water and exercise at least 30 minutes a day. You will lose 1-2 pounds a week by doing that.

15 pounds would probably get you to a good weight and with a balanced diet and exercise you can lose weight at 1 or 2 pounds per week. At this rate you should be able to keep the weight off. Lots of water is good too.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

That is not a question for anyone but a doctor or person that is trained in this area. Height, bone size and what sex you are all play in this plus what your health is also is a part of determining this.. You should have a physical and confer with you doctor before you start a weight loss program. A loss of 1-2 pounds a week are about norm according to your activities.(exercise)

What are you using as your standard? My weight fluctuates six#z each day. If I don't sit @ the computer, or in front of the tube, and go outside, I lose weight, no matter how much I eat. Of course it is hard to eat if you are active outside. I drink water. It makes me feel full.

It needless to say works and if i might accompanied it precisely i think of it would scare the residing daylights out of me by using quantity that i might lose. So thank you lower back for the innovations. i've got under no circumstances bought something like this until eventually now by using fact they are generally packed with trash, yet 3WD has been a delightful marvel. get began in the present day!

It depends on your body frame and amount of muscle you have, but anywhere from 105lb to 140lb is an acceptable weight.
If you have a medium frame, I'd say aim to be between 115lb and 130lb.
You should lose no more than 1lb-2lb per week. You should do both cardio and strength training and do not eat less than 1,200 calories to 1,500 calories per day.
Good luck : )
