It doesn't matter if it is a upgrade or full version you can do a fresh install with both of them. but vista is on a DVD so you need to make sure you have a DVD drive and it is set to first boot If you have an upgrade DVD feel free to mail me and I can point you in the right direction to get it installed

Make sure that you have a DVD drive installed first, because as far as I know that's all Vista is being shipped on. If you have a previous version of Windows, you can install the upgrade version, but you need to have an old version of Windows on the machine. If you want, you can chose to do a clean install on an upgrade CD in which the installation process will create a brand new installation of Windows instead of upgrading the old version.

Did you buy an upgrade CD or a full-version CD. If it is an upgrade CD then yes, you would have to have a previous version of windows (probably XP) installed beforehand. If it is a full version CD then you may have a bad CD drive, CD, or cable running from the board to the CD-ROM.

**Yeah, DVD. I forget. Why install it anyway? Its bloatware to the extreme and is basically a resource hog. it sucks.

Vista is on a DVD, not a CD.

That might be your problem... try setting your DVD drive as the first boot device.

You need a DVD Drive. They do not have a CD-Rom version. Also, you need the full verson, NOT the upgrade.
