Even the minister mentioned this today in church......but why is this a fact? I would of thought it would be the opposite. Seriously, what's ur opinion on this?

The last study I read was slightly different. They compared the divorce rate between regular church going Christians (obedient Christians) with those who don't go to Church (disobedient Christians and unbelievers).

The obedient Christians had far fewer divorces. So, a marriage that more likely stays together is one that has put God first in their family, then the husband and wife, then the children.

First it is not higher, but about the same. And when they poll, they ask Christians have you ever been divorced? The real question is, since your conversion, have you been divorced. Many people come to God when they have been brought to their needs by doing things their own way and wrecking their lives many time through divorce. Then they get the born again experience and never divorce again.

So the truth is, the after conversion rate of divorce is much less.

>>Why is divorce rate higher amoung CHristians?<<

Jews have a higher rate that Christians in general. Catholics and Lutherans are tied with atheists and agnostics for the lowest rate.

A trend that I see that is MUCH higher in Christians than in any other religious group is the fact that they get married so young.

I have a cousin whose 19 and getting married.
I know plenty of people at my sisters church who are under 21 and already married.

I think Girl Wonder has an excellent point--Christians are more likely to rush into marriage at an early age without really knowing the other person.

I don't think it's any higher among Christians than among any other group.

Christians, however, shouldn't be doing it as it goes directly against the words of Jesus, unless their spouse cheated on them.

If you go against Jesus on one thing, you can go against Jesus on other things. Soon you end up with a religion based upon contemporary acceptabilities. That's how the Sodimite's lived!

I was under the impression we called that concept of religion Paganism.

Churchianity is a heathen religion! The Almighty YHVH created this world very good. Once man sinned, he could no longer meet the requirements of YHVH. Because of His great love for man, He sent His son the Savior. The Savior's name means YHVH is my Savior!--YAHOSHUA! The only way one can have his sins taken care of is to invite the Savior in to carry them. If a person chooses to remain attached to their sins, they will be consumed in the cleansing fire the Almighty will send to cleanse this world so He can make it new! How could the Almighty be more generous?

Because many of them do not practice what they preach.I cannot stand hypocrisy.
Of course, there may have been valid reason for divorce in a few of these cases.

Christians are more hypocritical, look for solutions from magical sky-fairies and take less responsibility for their own action because of being made 'imperfect' or 'sinful'.

Atheists are on average just more intelligent - so they're more likely to marry someone they want to stay with.

Small but fierce - go look it up online. Christian divorce rates are much higher than atheists.

** 'Christians live by a higher standard'?? LOL Its funny watching the contortions a fundie makes when they know they're wrong but can't admit it, isn't it?**

Not for sure if this is true, but my guess would be it has to do with higher expectations, and always trying to be "good." which precludes healthy arguments, growth & discussion.
Also, since one's faith is a very personal thing, beliefs may not be as much in line as one might think before marriage.
