I don't live with him or anything...but today i heard he laid in bed all day and just is kind of depressed. He's had a hard life, I'm sure that's why he has depression, because of all the stuff he's been through.
I reallly wish i could help him not have depression, but really that's impossible. I worry about him non-stop...what should i do? Will he deal with life better once he gets older, or will it just get worse? He's 17.

If he is taking medication and going to therapy he may get better.
You can be of great help by just being a good friend. Don't let him talk you into premature sex.
Severely depressed people tend to thing that with more pleasure they will bet better. That is an illusion. As soon as the pleasure is gone the depression is back, and sometimes at deeper levels, making the situation worse.

I am 34 and have been deperessed scince I was about 18. It gets worse for me, mainly because the older one gets the more responsabilities life throws at you, weather you want them or not. For me I find it very difficult to find a reason to get out of bed most of the time. I take stretera 18mg. and it only helps with my ADD ( attention deficit disorder ) but this along with a felony makes it nearly impossible for me to get employment anywhere. elpecially now a day's...I've been on SSI for 15 years, and people can say what they wan't or call me what they wish, but they don't have the problems, and issues I've got, and everything I've tried didn't help, even 12 years of therapy by a man with 8 degrees.

The teenage years can be really hard on people and depression is really common and can be especially severe during this time. If he is worse than normal he should call his therapist. Perhaps the therapy they have him on right now is not enough.

I can't answer your question but I can tell you my experience. My friend also suffered from bouts of depression where he would lie in bed all day or withdraw from everyone. If he is the same as my friend, it won't improve with age. He ultimately received treatment for this via medication but it was a tough road. If you can, encourage him to seek counselling for this.
