out, can I deduct that on my taxes, even though I'm not giving it to an official non-profit?

No, money given to an individual is not deductible. Even if you gave it to a recognized charity but directed that it be given to him, it wouldn't be deductible.

nope, it has to be an official non-profit. although there is a set amount of I thing up to 600 that you can claim for charity without proof.

nope! If you do and you get caught you will get nailed.

You can do it because he's a friend but it won't help your tax situation.
