Use Turbo Tax instead!!!! NEVER use H&R Block - I assume that Hewitt is similar.

Block is very expensive (simple 1040 is about $150 & Turbo Tax is less than $40). Taxes are not that difficult.

The Block course is a problem. The teacher may teach WRONG info. Students with experience may know more than the teacher and have to correct him numerous times. Students are not taught some of the basics becasue the area is "beyond the scope of this course" - it states that in the text book. They hire people that flunk the final!

I have heard of NUMEROUS horror stories from former clients about the major errors on their returns and how the preparer told them to forget about the problem.

I wouldn't send an enemy to H&R Block!

Don't choose either H&R block or JH,both are waste of your money. If your taxes is not complicated file using one of the Free tax software like TaxAct
http://www.bestonlinetaxpreparation.com/products/taxact.html

Now if you need help and your income is less than 39K, then contact a VITA center they will prepare and e-file your taxes free. You can get more details about how to get tax help at http://findtaxservice.com/tax-help/how-to-get-tax-help.html

If your taxes are complicated then contact an enrolled agent or cpa in your city. Price will not be much different from that charged by block or jh

It's not a percent, it's a fee based on how complicated your return is.

If your income is under about $40,000 a year, find a VITA or TCE site in your area - they'll prepare your taxes at no charge. See irs.gov, and put VITA in the search box, to get more info on these programs.

the fees depends on how you are filing.

if you are itemizing and using different schedules, it can run you up to $350.

if you are doing a straight 1040..don't waste your money, just do it yourself.
i've heard turbo tax works great, but i'm scared of it.

H & R block sucks, try anyone else but them!

Just call 3 or 4 places tomorrow, see what they want. They charge different rates depending on where they're located.
