Hi, I had a work related injury and was field tested for drugs and Alchohol afterwards. The test came up positive for opiates and amphetamines. I have not used any drugs in my life. I am however currently taking a few different prescriptions. Lexapro 20 mg, Trazadone 150 mg, Metatoprol 50 mg, trileptol 300 mg and prevasaid. Does any of these drugs show up in ua as such? I am very worried as I could loose my job.

None of those medications have opiates or amphetamines in them. Also, it is very, VERY, unlikely you got a positive for opiates from eating some poppy seed bagels, cause the level of percentage for opiate tests was raised dramatically a few years back to prevent such events. Amphetamine-wise, you could have gotten a positive from any over the counter pills you have take that contain pseudoephedrine (ex: sudafed) even tho, this is also unlikely, but it's the only possible way I can think of without haven taken speed. Opiate-wise, have you taken any over the counter pills or cough syrup containing codeine? Codeine will fail you for an opiate drug test easily.

Another possibility arises though. I just looked in an encyclopedia for those meds you take, and they ALL seem to interact with other substances (each other, other medicines, and even food). So, maybe you had some kind of weird interaction there which made you fail a drug test, to pinpoint what exactly is beyond me.

My advice is try and get off of those meds for a week, eat healthy and drink a lot of water, then have your own drug test done. That might prove hard to do though, since um, after you've been taking that kind of stuff (antidepressants, anti psychotics, and stuff for epilepsy) it is kind of hard to stop :-\

I don't have a definite answer for you, but about 8 years ago, I was taking Depakote to prevent migraines and effexor for depression. I took a urine drug screen for work, and it came back positive for amphetamines and PCP! My employer sent me for a blood test, and that came back negative. I am no longer on any medications, but needless to say, I am terrified every time I have had to take a drug test since then (I have never had another false positive result). The best thing I can recomend is to ask for a blood test if you have a positive urine test if you have not been taking any drugs. It is more specific, and will detect metabolites of the actual medications you have taken, not just a general class.

If you were drug tested after a work related injury the doctor's office should have asked you to let them know what medications you were on before the drug test. Did you eat anything that contained poppy seeds? It is possible that they will show up on a drug test since opium is derived from poppy seeds.
