Act more mature than them and ignore their rudeness. Smile and let it all go over your head. You dont have to like them but you need to tolerate them . Being rude back will be immature and cause problems within your marriage. If they are really going over board discuss it in a civil manner with your huband and tell him you refuse to be subjected to such treatment but you respect his right to share time with them etc. If it is really bad then one would hope that your husband is defending you. If not his loyalty is being torn and you need to discuss this with him to get to some sort of understanding of where your inlaws stand within your marriage.

After 16 years I just could not take my ex-mother in law. I had two children with her son. I worked to help provide. I took my kids to after school activity gymnastic, greatcoat pitch. And Sunday School. The kids went to a private school (she did not pay for even though she was loaded}. No matter what I did, I just wasn't right I didn't cook right, clean the house right, came home to late from work the list goes on and one. We even went to marriage counseling. The counselor told my ex-husband that he need to put his wife and children first. He down right told her noway. His mother and brothers comes first and all ways will. Well I had stood it long enough. I took the kid and moved four states away. Three years later the old women died. She left my ex- three-million dollars and a timber business. I never saw a penny of it.,And don't want it I considerate dirty money. I know this probably didn't help you But I feel better for telling that story.

Now to deal with rude in laws you have to have your husband on your side. Don't let them walk all over you stand up to them. I feel like that is where I made my mistake in the beginning. I was very young. And tried to be respectful. But look where it got me. If you would like message me and be more specific of how rude are they. Are they rude to you in your home or what?

Tell your husband that you don't want to be at the same place they are because they are rude. If they can learn to show a little respect you'll return the favor. You have to give respect, kindness, etc. in order to get it back. If they come to your house leave or go to the other room and make it known why you are doing it. Don't take crap off people that think they are better than you !

When they say something rude, you reply, "Why would you say something like that to me?" When they ask a question to which the answer is none of their business, you reply, "Why would you ask me that question?" Just let them know, graciously and tactfully, that they are being rude and you're not willing to just excuse their bad behavior.

Be civil and talk to your spouse about how it hurts you. Let the spouse deal with the parents. If you married a good person, they will put their foot down.

It is hard to deal with them. It depends on the circumstances, how often you see them and if you have children. I suggest not stooping to their level. I agree you will need to have your husbands support or it will be trying. Do not be around what makes you uncomfortable. Do not allow your children to be around habits that you do not want to them to learn and mimic. It depends on what you are willing to tolerate. Good luck and God bless!!

BE AN ADULT ACT CIVILIZED. IF THEY REALLY REALLY REALLY CROSS THE LINE WITH A RUDE COMMENT TAKE THEM TO THE SIDE AND LET THEM KNOW THAT COMMMENT WASN'T APPRECIATED. IF IT CONTINUES THEY DON'T CARE SO TRY NOT TO BE AROUND THEM THAT OFTEN . BUT KEEP YOURSELF RESPECT TRY NOT TO GO OFF AND GET INTO CHICK BRAWL WITH THE GRANDMA OR WHOEVER.
