i just had my tonsils removed, the doctor prescribed codeine, but it does nothing, and at best it is active for an hour, tops.

I have a prescription for voltaren/diclofenac and that usually takes care of everything, but i was told not to take that immediately after surgery for fear of bleeding. Its been a few days now, can i take that instead of the codeine ?

Check with your doctor though, usually they give you their number to call if you have any questions following surgery, and I'll tell you why I would be so cautious:
I'm not sure how old you are, but a young man I know in his late 20's just had his tonsils out. It had been a couple of weeks, everything was fine, he was going back to work, and then blood just started shooting out of his mouth and nose. They rushed him to the hospital with a bucket to catch the blood. He lost 2 pints or more, his carotid artery had been ruptured by the tonsilectomy and the resulting swelling. That's why it's a little riskier to do on adults rather than children. He's fine now, but it was so scary, and they had to replace a lot of blood that he had lost.
So the danger of bleeding is real. Sorry you are in such pain, but you really should call the hospital and talk to a nurse or your MD or surgeon.

This may help but is good information...
Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

Please, don't come here asking for advice for something like this. Check with your doctor. This is nothing to play around with. You don't want any problems. Tell your doctor your pain medication isn't helping and see if he can prescribe something that can help.
