Our well intentioned, but ineffectual laws controlling Prohibited Substances benefits Terrorists, gangs, and the maffia among other unsavioury "corporate citizens". It does not protect the young and the dumb cause it's just too easy to find a fix, isn't it?
Instead our Laws keep the prices of ilegal drugs so high that they are a very profitable commodity to traffick or trade or smuggle.
With the present Terrorism problem it's simply suicidal to keep the nanny state trying to protect the young and dumb from those substances. The young must be protected mainly by their parents, relatives and social support networks not by the police or by ineffective legislation. The dumb...who wants to get a high and die prematurely should have the freedom to screw themselves cause the War on Drugs is too high a price to pay to protect them.
Let's speak out for legalization of all substances and their regulation and taxation and for the treatment of addicts.

To Leanne: "the problem is the demand" dear the demand for drugs will never change, you will never eliminate all addicts
people want to live life their own way, drugging themeselves, aborting, and being gay there will always be some elements of society for that.

War on drugs? There is no war on drugs. Drug money has become one of the major influences on our economy. The so called "war on drugs" applies only to those who don't pay off or work outside of the cartel. The war is designed to keep the money flowing.

Yes if we want a true war on drugs we should legalize, take the profit out of the business and it would mostly go away. Yes there would still be users. So ! One trip to rehab. If it did not work. Well it did not work. All of us will die sometime. I one wants it sooner so be it. We are overpopulated anyway.

The plan is definitely a winner. Not nice, but a winner. It is by far the lesser of two evils.

"Let's speak out for legalization of all substances and their regulation and taxation and for the treatment of addicts."

Wow - what are you thinking? I'm no advocate on any war that has been so unsuccessful as our "wars" on both drugs or poverty, but I can't even begin to imagine legalizing all controlled substances.
A favorite ploy by the opponents of prohibition was that with the taxes that could be levied on legal alcohol by the government, we could eliminate all of the other taxes. Turns out they were a little off on that one - alcohol doesn't pay society, it costs society - in many, many different ways.
It's just a really bad idea. It's not the war on drugs or the terrorists that are the problems - it's the demand and the customers, both the young and the dumb.

Our legal system protects the real drug dealers. Only the small dealers/users are caught and prosecuted. There is too much money involved. These larger dealers can afford to pay billions to dirty lawyers/law officers/politicians etc. You will never get rid of drugs. Also, the pharmaceutical companies sell too many "Legal" drugs and make billions from them. Our Nation has become drug dependent, be it illegal or legal. Trying to eradicate this sickness is almost an impossibility. Sad to say. Hisemiester

I pretty much agree with you and I haven't see anything over several decades of adult life that would persuade me otherwise.

I don't think people should mess with drugs, but the political/legal approach to the issues for the last 60-70 years is seriously flawed.

I couldn't agree with you more. I live in between two drug dealers. It's some thing to see kids in their teens get out of brand new cars! One even died of an OD, yet still the drug dealing and using goes on!
