From experience, I'd check the wires that go from the battery to the starter. They coating could have gotten melted by the exhaust and be sparking out. Or a bad alternator.

Good Luck

i own a repair shop, and you need to start checking all the ground wires on it,because what you said sounds like the main ground has come loose on it, or has a bad case of corrosion on it,and this will cause this to happen, also a bad relay will do it ,but it wont make everything in the vehicle go off like that, its trying to take everything the battery has to start it,and it still wont start,id start checking and cleaning ground wires, one bad ground can cause exactly whats happening to it,good luck i hope this help,s.

i am sure this is the ignition switch, not the key & tumbler but down the steering column from there is the electrical part that is at fault, right about your ankles on top of the steering column.i bet i am right, let me know what you find.good luck.

Well to start with, make sure your battery post are clean. With a new battery you should be ok there. I would go after the starter solenoid. ......Dave

you need a new start module on the bottom of the steering column (inside the car) .... get a mechanic to look and confirm and fix your ride ----- the car is 17 years old be calm and keep paying or get something newer and no repair bills .....
