Yes ducks can make great pets. If you plan on getting one, you should get atleast two, they get very scared and LOUD when seperated. they are also very messy, and when there in the brooder as ducklings still you need to clean it out daily. like i said ducks make great pets, but there definately not something that doesnt require a lot of time. and to be friendly with humans, you need to spend lots of time with them as ducklings. otherwise they are very skittish around people. also, I wouldnt recomend getting the colored easter ducks, they are always males, and it might cause problems when they get older, as they may not get along. if you have a feed store or any farm supply store around you, they usually carry baby chickens (wich also make Great pets, I think they are more easily tamed then ducks even) and ducks around spring.

i had to give my duck away last year when i moved out of the country and was just arguing with my partner about getting a new one, my duck wore diapers, and was very cuddly
ducks can live 20 years and need to be indoors to be pets, they can be extremly loyal and personable, my duck was smart as a whip and much like a parrot in the way he interacted just couldnt talk but he communicated just fine
good luck but remember, easter is not a time to get a duck, because even though you might take good care of it not everyone will, so dont put money into that industry...
go to a breeder and pick out a chick from the breeder!!!!

Maybe..but Im not too precise. sometimes a duckling is a pretty good pet but sometimes the mess is unbelivable! a duckling is okay but it a little while, it will grow and DUCKS are annoying! but to sum it all up pets teach kids to be responsible. try with easier animals and if the kids responded, acelerate.

the only problem is tha twhen they are young you do not know what kind of disposition they will have as they get older.
We had one as a 'gift' when my cousins got it for Easter and it turned out to be mean. We lived on a farm so he could roam free and he wasn't big enough to muscle up to the cows and horses. He followed us around some, but in general his nature was not one I would consider him a good pet. Pecking and pinching were his favorite pastimes.

I agree with u my 3 have been fantastic pets I got them when they were baby's and they were easy to teach and will follow who ever takes care of them. Just like any pet they need lol and attention . So if u do get one plan on spending a lot of time with it until it learns, especially while it is little// I loved it they thought I was mommie~~!

DON'T GET ONE IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO CLEAN ALOT!!!!!
I have an adorable blue eyed Peking female that I rescued from a local pond because turtles had almost eaten her feet off!
I feed her waterfowl pellets, coarse cracked corn, mixed salad greens and big, fat night crawlers! she sucks those things down like spaghetti and will catch them in mid air if I throw them to her!
I love this little sweetie but she is more work than a room full of cockatoos!
I use pine needles for her sub-strait and I have her in a 4x4 cage that has a bottom grate on it because ducks love to 'sift' through any material and will eat any thing available! Before I had her in an area that she could just chow down on any thing that was there! Big mistake! she managed to get a mega-bacterial infection of the intestines! $250.00 and she's all right now!
So, take good advice... if you have the time and desire, ducks are an awesome pet! but if you don't....
just take the kiddies to the local park and feed the ducks there.

ducklings are awesome pets. They are sweet, and you can train them. But if you decide to get one you should not live in the city because ducks need ponds and land. Or else they would be cooped up in a small apartment and that is not healthy for an animal.
