As most people age, thier hair gets darker. I've only seen a few cases where the hair has stayed the same until thier late 50's and they have been all natural blondes and then a few sprigs of grey have shown up.
For the majority of us, our hair goes darker and mousier than it was when we were younger....plus, enviromental elements don't help along with our water system (hard or softer water has an effect...the amount of chlorine in the water also has an effect) so take that into consideration as well.
The only way for you to know what your natural color is, is to grow it out gradually....it will feel awful but there are a few things that you can do to help yourself along the way which is to use a semi permanent color on it to help cover your roots...professionally done of course. Going as close to your natural color as possible (a stylist can tell you this by matching it with a color awatch) and coloring the whole thing that color.
Good luck!! Hope it works out for ya!

It will only come back in the new growth. It won't come back darker, although it may seem a bit different if you haven't had your natural hair color in a while. You'll have to just let it grow out and gradually cut off the colored hair as it grows.

Highlights most often come from your hair getting bleached out by the sun, so when your hair initially grows in, it will be darker but once you spend some time in the sun will lighten up again

sound like you need professional hair help. please don't try to do it yourself , depending on what is on your hair now there is no way to tell how it will turn out. with all the color you have applied I would be very careful with doing more color. if you leave your hair alone it will grow out and be your natural color again.

yes it will be darker, but partly by contrast with your chemically-treated hair -- also because unless one is light-haired, new growth just comes in darker until it's gotten sun exposure, etc. once your new growth has been exposed to sun, it will lighten somewhat.
