She has been a farm dog all her life and the man that owns her doesn't want her anymore because he says she is too old and is of no use anymore. He wants to shoot her. :( She is about 13-14 years old and I would like to take her in and give her a warm home and make her life more comfortable for the little time she has left.

JUST SO YOU KNOW-
I DO NOT agree with shooting the dog, and from what I've heard, he doesn't want to pay for euthanasia. (the big meanie!!)

Good for you wanting to take on an older Collie!!!
I am a Collie owner, they do live for 10 to 20 yrs depending on the care given. Since she was a working dog most of her life she may be very healthy, once you take her in please take her to the vet to make sure she is healthy.
The owner now is a jerk for wanting to kill her just because she is an older Collie and is not able to work like she use to.
Good luck and again good for you

I've owned several rough (lassie style) collies. Large breeds in general live about 8-12 years. Any rough Collie over 12 years old is doing exceptionally well. Collies prefer cooler climates. Beautiful dog in appearance and disposition.
