hmm they are both great family dogs...both are gentle and sweet..a golden retriever would be easier to train cauz they aren't so puppish like a lab but then a lab wouldn't have as much grooming needed like a golden...a golden will have to be brushed at least two or three times a week...so they both have plus and minus..it just depends on what's more important to you

They are not although I have also noticed they have many similarities. I think alot of confusion comes in because people sometimes mistake yellow labs for golden retrievers, but labs generally have short fur while Goldens have longer more flowing locks. While Labrador retrievers came from Canada, Golden Retrievers originated from Europe. The Golden Retriever was first developed in the British Isles, probably from crosses between a yellow Flat-Coated Retriever, light-coated Tweed Water Spaniels, other spaniels, setters and even the Newfoundland and possibly the Bloodhound. The Golden Retriever is one of the world's foremost family companion dogs. Many of the top obedience competition dogs in the country are Golden retrievers. Labrador Retrievers are believed to have originated on the island of Newfoundland, now part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. They are thought to have descended from the St. John's Water Dog (no longer in existence), a crossbreed of native water dogs and the Newfoundland to which the Labrador is closely related. While Golden Labs comes only in a golden color, Labrador Retrievers can come in yellow, black, or chocolate. Both breeds are wonderful family dogs. However, Golden Retrievers as a breed are typically a bit more calm than Labrador Retrievers. Golden Retrievers tend to want to be with people all the time, and desire a lot of attention. Labs are more independent by nature. They are also very noisy about everything. Both breeds are great with kids, and both love water, although some labs may love to swim more than some goldens.

They're both relatively the same. I've never had neither one, but there have been a few labradors in the family and they all have been very nice family dogs. I think golden retrievers may be a little calmer around kids, but they both are known as being good family dogs. I would go with either one. You should look around for a rescue group considering this breed is so popular.

Either dog is great. Both are playful and lovable dogs. Don't listen to the people who tell you a yellow lab is more trainable than a black lab, or a chocolate lab, as they have no clue what they are talking about. They are the same dog, just different colors. Their colors have no influence on there ability to train.

Try a standard poodle. They don't shed and are very smart and trainable. They do need more grooming than the retriever and lab though. Between the lab and the golden, I'd take a lab. They shed less.

Get a black labrador. They are much cooler than a yellow. Yahh. You should get one from you local rescue shelter if possible. It is niceer to pay for a dog that you know is ok. Than trust a breeder who might be breeding unhealthy dogs.
