What's with all the microwaved potatoes? I thought the question was about BAKED potatoes. Baked potatoes are done in a regular oven. My tried and true method is as follows:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Use Russet potatoes. Scrub well under running water with vegetable brush. Blot with paper towel to remove excess water.
Cut a 2-inch slit in top of each potato. You can also trim a thin slice from each end.
Rub all over with EVOO and salt or favorite seasoning (I like Montreal Steak seasoning). I have also used bacon fat, but the fat police might come get me.
Bake in oven for 1 hour. Perfect baked potatoes every time.
Yum. I think I'll go make me one.

Wash the tater off and wrap it in aluminum foil. Put it in the oven and bake for like an hour. (Set temp at like 350 - 400) As the hour nears poke potato with a fork to check it as if ready or not. Maybe 15 minutes or so before it is done open the foil some and let it finish that way.

You wrap it in tin foil and poke it with a fork several times and bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour. Or you can poke it several times and microwave it, most microwaves have a baked potato button.

Take a Russet or Idaho potato. Prick skin with fork and cut very thin slice off each end. Rub olive oil (rosemary flavored if you have it) all over outer skin. Rub outside of potato with Course Kosher salt. Put in microwave on top of a paper towel. Microwave on HIGH, 7-10 min. depending on size of potato. Allow potato to "rest a minute or two before slicing open.

Just like eveybody else said - and just squeeze them a little to make sure their soft (BTW 15 minutes in the oven won't do it).
If your not up to a 30 or so minute wait then just throw it in the microwave for 10 minutes. Make sure you wash it and poke holes in it with a fork. Turn it over half way through cooking it. The more potatoes the longer they take.
