Faith is the blind belief in something that isn't there. I think stevie wonder said it best: When you believe in things that you dont understand, then you suffer. Superstition ain't the way.

If religion is bad, then go to the root of it. What did faith bring to the world? Did it bring science? Did it solve economic problems? Did it solve political problems? Did it predict the future? Did it help people to reason better or to understand each other better?
With faith people could only imagine things that do not exist just to feel better about themselves.

Faith is the feeling that one can know something without using logical thinking.

Religion has brought many things to many different people. Many historians point out that religion came about when societies were forming, thus giving leaders more power from a higher power (both McKinely and Bush Jr. consulted god before declaring war on the Phillipines and Iraq, respecively.) Religion has also provided pondering people with answers (why are we here? because god put us here.) Religion has also brought about a huge divide in the world between the religious and non religious. Many people would call me an infidel, and I'm sure many radical Muslims in the Mid-east would mind killing me because I'm Jewish (ethnicaly, that is.) But religion has also provided people with a moral code to live by and a reason to live. In my humble opinion, ORGANIZED religion has provided the world with more bad than good.

The first hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes, the concept of human rights for the common people, the concept of the University, the idea of universal literacy (to encourage Bible reading), most anti-slavery movements in England & American were lead by Christians, Woman’s suffrage started out as a movement in Christianity, the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. was started out by the Baptist Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and the congregation of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and many others. Religion has brought a lot of things to the world but I like the religiously inspired works of art that have been produced over the centuries such as literature, poetry, music, paintings and movies.

The Delusional thinking that says that we can ignore the injustices of this world because the next world is the one that counts.

On the flipside of that equation, for people like Dr. King and Gandhi, it was the wellspring for the ideas of equality and non-violence as it was the justifications for things like equal rights and the social contract.

A variety of ways of thinking about the "big" questions, in a different way than that used by scientists.

A lot of war, hatred, and strife.

A lot of love, peace, and charity.

Many myths.

Some universal truths.

Religion is man made. Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonegut is a good example. HOWEVER, it has brought hope to those who have never known it and love to those who have never felt it.

that is what religion is doctrines of men

The one really positive thing that I see as good and that everyone should be able to agree on is that in its earliest forms religion brought social order to the world...lately?...not so much

a pure religeon would bring no harm .. but man adds his own doctrines to it and u wind up with divisions that cause strife, debates, and disputes ....u cant equate a belief in God and a mans relationship to God with religeon though ... pure religeon is inward perfection, peace, love and beauty ... outward religeon is made up by man and thats where the problems come from ...............
