Let me give you the history. My dog was doing well until I took her to the vet for her shots and exam. She threw up in the exam room twice. I thought it was car sickness. The vet felt her belly and it felt hard so she did xrays. The xrays showed she had alot of fecal matter in her intentines that ran way up to her shoulder area. Her recommendation was to change her food to a food with no fillers. Okay, so she got her shots and we bought a premium dog food which we are gradually giving her. She ate well last night, but she is not eating at all today. Oh, and we gave her heartworm medicine for the first time as well. She is acting very lethargic. She shows no signs of swelling, but she just won't eat and won't get up out of her bed. Basically, she just wants to sleep. My vet doesn't know what's going on with her. We did a full panel of blood work and everything is normal. Could it be the food? Please, if anyone out there has any suggestions, please advise. Thanks!

My dog is pooing three to four times a day, which the doc said is not normal, so thats why she said to change the food to one with no fillers. She is two years old and we have been experiencing problems with her since we rescued her a month ago.

Vaccines can cause some lethargy but it should go away in a day or two. Young puppies frequently experience carsickness but usually grow out of it. It is helpfull not to feed her before a trip.
You are changing her diet gradually which is good. You did bloodwork...great, you are a conciencious owner! I commend you! Your vet should have checked her stool for parasites as well. Beginning the heartworm meds is important but should also be considered a factor if she is suddenly not doing well. Dogs who already have heartworms can become VERY ill on the preventitive medicine. (this is why annual testing is so important!) Consult your vet and consider leaving her there for a day for observation. Also, be sure she has not gotten into anything that would make her ill. Good luck with your baby :)

Theree could be a number of reasons...but I have never heard of feces showing up on an x ray and a dogs intestines do not go up to her shoulder. She could have swallowed something and may be stuck somewhere. She could have started passing something on down through the intestine. Dogs have been known to chew up and swallow material.'What did she throw up in the vets office? Was it basically just watery? The shots should not have hurt her...nor the heartworm. Changing food on a dog that is already showing signs of not feeling well is a no no.Many dogs that do not feel well will just lay and rest....not move any more than nessessary....neither do humans. Chances are you were right in the dog being car sick...especially after you said there was nothing wrong before you took her there. I'd just give her system a chance to recover from what ever. I am sure the vet took a temp on her... blood samples were taken...it would rule out disease. Give her system a chance ..give her water by her bed if she wants it and wait and see. Another thought ..if a trained vet said that a dogs intestines go up to the shoulder....Id get another vet,

You might want to try and feed your dog some cooked food. I know some say that you shouldn't feed dogs table food, but I think in certain, special circumstances, you should definitely make an exception. Not just anything though. Get some boneless, skinless chicken breast. Boil it until it's done. You don't have to put any special seasonings on it or anything. And since it is skinless, you don't have to worry about fat content. Your dog will definitely eat it. Perfect example is about 3 weeks ago, my friend's 15-year old dog had a stroke and went blind. She was maybe 11 pounds. She wouldn't eat for days and lost about 5 pounds. I had prepared some chicken earlier and suggested it. My friend was adamant that the dog wouldn't eat it. FINALLY she relented and gave the dog a bite. And wouldn't you know it - the dog loved it! So we gave her a bit more, since she hadn't been eating at all. Even though the dog was blind, she definitely was using all of her other senses to search out more of the chicken.
It is worth a try considering nothing else has worked for you. I would love to know the outcome!

Sorry but change vets. I am very surprised the vet after seeing how backed up her intestines were gave her shots and then told you to give her the heart worm meds. She could be having a bad reaction to all the shorts and the heart worm meds.
For the time being make her some ground chicken and brown rice. Cook the chicken as you would ground beef drain the fat and add the cooked rice to it. Give her about a cup at a time. Make sure she has plenty of water.
Really get her to another vet.
Good Luck!

YOU NEED A NEW VET!
my cat was sick earlier this week and we spent $200 with one vet who only made him vomit before we went to a vet that made him better for $70, so I swear there is a difference with different vets. If your vet doesn't have the answers, find one that does.
I would also recommend going now, to an emergency clinic or something. I can't believe your vet would send your dog home like that without having any idea what is going on. At least I'd imagine they'd give her a laxative or something.

My suggestion is that you call Dr.Clark he is a mobile vet whom I've known for a few years and is a great animal doctor. His business number is 509-922-1022. He can probably advise you on what you do. Good luck!

I'd take her to another vet! Preferably one that is open right now like a ER for pets! Your dog sounds very sick and she needs medical attention now!

dont push her eating!
pets are just like humans, sometimes we just dont get hungry somedays.
if this non-eating habit exists, take her back to the vet, or if she/he likes treats, at least feed him that.
or maybe if he like chicken and beef and things, wrap some of her dry food up in chicken or beef (any kind of meat)
good luck!
i hope he feels better :]]
