I do not believe in an eternal soul. The quote would make more sense if you inserted the word "life" for "soul".
...And the answer is nothing.

He'll lose his soul when he dies, he will never gain the whole world, but he may gain a lot of stuff. Some people gain too much stuff.
There is no soul and no god, so it is incumbent upon us to maintain high ideals; and to be good, and to encourage the goodness in others, and to be diligent unto the end.

There is no immortal soul. However, I think "soul" can be a useful literary metaphor. I think people who gain tremendous profit, but lose their humanity and compassion in the process have gained nothing.

Well, the world, I guess. And he could then do whatever, since, without a soul, he's not able to go to any sort of religious underworld. Therefore, since he knows there is a consequence (due to our having a soul to lose) that he is no longer subject to (since he has no soul to be sent to Hell), he could afford to be amoral, if he wanted. And since "absolute power corrupts absolutely," he probably would.

A man or woman for that matter will gain nothing if they lose their soul. Jesus is the only way to be whole. He is the only way to be fulfilled, in Him alone do we find true joy and peace!!
God Bless!!!

well im not too sure what your asking but from a teenager perspective i really think that it shouldn't matter if you give your life or soul to god only. and you shouldnt want to "gain the whole world" or anything in this world becuase you can't take it when you leave. :]

The world exists, but the soul is non-existent. Your hypothetical man therefore loses nothing.

All the material goods in the world are worth nothing to you if you die and spend eternity in hell. That's what that means.
