My future mother-in-law is planning on wearing an eggshell/ ivory colored dress (with black dots on it) to our wedding. Is that appropriate?

My mother in law wore eggshell to my wedding and looked lovely. The only way it would be inappriote is if you happen to be wearing a wedding dress in the same color. Even then - it depends on the style. I have seen weddings were the Mother of the Bride who a white skirt/blazer and because it was so much less elaborate, it didn;t distract from the bride.

The question is....have you seen the dress and if so, can you make sure that her dress is coordinated into the wedding. Make sure that she has her heart set on that dress first. Then, let her know that you will be adding special touches to accent her choice. This will help bring the families together. Small black dots would be easy to use as an accent on the table settings or some other small token showing love and acceptance to your soon to be mother. Maybe a handkerchief worn in the groomsman's pockets.

The color sounds OK; but I would leave the black dots at home. Too causal, not appropriate for a wedding.

Sounds okay to me. My mother-in-law and my mother wore cream colored dresses to my wedding. The color really complimented both of them and they coordinated nicely.

(technically the Mother of the Bride and the Mother of the Groom are supposed to coordinate)

The dots should be enough of a contrast.
You certainly don't want white or something so similar like an off white.
This is your day and you need to stand out.
Remember the movie Monster in law?

i think it would be ok. but the black dots, i am not so sure about. as long as you dont wear an egg-shell colored dress to your wedding. you arent supposed to wear the same color dress as the bride. [as you probably already know]

If the bride says ok, then bypass extraordinary forward. Its no longer that worry-unfastened for the mothers to placed on black, yet black at a marriage is not any longer taboo. and such as you mentioned, each physique seems stable in it. If the bride says she prefers yet another color, how approximately army blue or a deep wine color? those would be purely as slimming as black yet is purely no longer as "untraditional" as black would be and that they might nevertheless be dark so as that if there is any seeping it might nevertheless no longer be noticable. stable success!

I think it will be fine. No one is going to mistake her for the bride!
I wore a dark cream color suit at my daughter's wedding.

Only if it is OK with you -- the bride! If you feel it is too close too white, tell her.
