Not a Christian nation.
The founding fathers were deists, but they weren't stupid. They needed all the support they could get, and using Christianity was just the way to do it.
Check their PRIVATE communications, and you will see exactly what they thought of Christianity.
But that is irrelevant now. This is a secular nation, and society is slowing moving away from all that religion mumbo jumbo.
So, the answer is a resounding NO.
Gary, those are all public communications. They hold no water when you consider the circumstances. Try harder next time.

Hi there. Guess we cannot thank God for our Christian nation because it has never been one though people belive we are one. Yes we have foundations but a true Christian nation does not have so called Christians, rape, murder, steal rampantly. I am a Christian I try to lead a life trhat is pleasing to God but without Him I could be the same. We are all weak. America allows all beliefs look at Obama. he is probably a good man but being good is not the only ting to life. His beliefs keep him going but being a Mormon , or a JW does not make you a Christian. Only following the ways of Jesus and commiting your life to Him and giving your life to Him in a humble way can help us follow the ways of a believer. have a good day.

No. Loving America is like loving Nineveh. It may be great and powerful, but God does not judge a nation by its economy, military or President, God judges a nation by its people. Because of that, I can only say that may God forgive us.

I am grateful for the right to be a Christian without persecution, but I would have to ask you what Christian nation. In the USA today many things are going on that would point to the fact that our country has left Christianity far behind, in favor of chasing the Dollar. This is a sad trade, but it has been made. We ought to tear our clothes and weep for the destruction of the Christian values that built this country, for those of us who are Christians. But for all means be glad for the freedom for those who are wise enough to seek God to do so without persecution, and for the freedom of those who choose not to believe in God to exercise their beliefs, or non beliefs.

You Christians keep getting this wrong! This is a SECULAR nation whose citizenry is made up mostly of Christians. There is a HUGE difference. A Christian country would be a theocracy and all our lives would be in danger. It certainly wouldn't be a free country because theocracies hate freedom.

I do not believe that we are a Christian nation. I believe that we are a client Nation to God. The Christians in this nation represent God before man.
We have freedom, free choice concerning our religious beliefs.
We send out missionairies.
We have evangelists.
I also believe that Christians in this great Nation are apostate.
I believe in the power of prayer.
Christians need to use 1John1:9-if we name our sins, he is just and righteouss to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness".
Then when we are back in fellowship we need to pray 2ND Chronicles 7:14-..if my people, who are called my by name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, then will I hear from heaven and restore their land".
We are a nation under discipline.
Christians can call in the God of the Armies to defeat terrorism.
Peace out.

Christian nation? I don't think so. And I already see that some of your Christian friends want to play the Quote Game. I can play that game too. Let me see...
“Nothing is more dreaded than the national government meddling with religion.”
“[T]he Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion...”
--John Adams
“In every country and in every age the priest [any and every clergyman] has been hostile to liberty; he is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.”
“I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition [Christianity] one redeeming feature. They are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies.”
“It is not to be understood that I am with him [Jesus] in all his doctrines. I am a Materialist.”
Christianity neither is, nor ever was apart of the common law.
--Thomas Jefferson
“During almost fifteen centuries, the legal establishment of Christianity has been on trial. What have been the fruits of this trial? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; and in both, clergy and laity, superstition, bigotry and persecution.”
--James Madison
“The Infinite Father expects or requires no worship or praise from us.”
“As to Jesus of Nazareth, [...] I have...some Doubts as to his Divinity. [...] I see no harm, however, in its being believed [...] I do not perceive, that the Supreme takes it amiss, by distinguishing the Unbelievers...with any peculiar Marks of his Displeasure....”
--Benjamin Franklin
“The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion. It has been the most destructive to the peace of man since man began to exist. Among the most detestable villains in history, you could not find one worse than Moses, who gave an order to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers and then rape the daughters. One of the most horrible atrocities found in the literature of any nation. I would not dishonor my Creator's name by attaching it to this filthy book.”
--Thomas Paine
“The United States have adventured upon a great and noble experiment, which is believed to have been hazarded in the absence of all previous precedent -- that of total separation of Church and State."
--John Tyler
“My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvationand the human origin of the scriptures, have become clearer and stronger with advancing years and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them.”
--Abraham Lincoln
“Mr. Lincoln was not a Christian.”
--Mary Todd Lincoln
"Keep the church and state forever separate."
--Ulysses S. Grant
“I hold that in this country there must be complete severance of Church and State; that public moneys shall not be used for the purpose of advancing any particular creed; and therefore that the public schools shall be nonsectarian and no public moneys appropriated for sectarian schools.”
--Theodore Roosevelt
