I was watching these funny videos on animal planet and this parot was putting newspaper in it's feathers. Mom said that her birds did the same thing. Why do they do this?

If the birds are Love birds.. the female will do this when she is making a nest or thinking about it. Its the female that does this. She is using the paper as nesting material...she will tear up paper roll it up and stick it in her tail feathers to carry it back to where she wants to make a nest.

Do the birds have toys? I was told they tear up papers out of boredom.

they usually do it when getting ready to build a nest
