It is true that man has used religion for political gain. Nazi Germany had "God with us" engraved in German on the belts of Nazi soldiers. America said, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." The law may even allow you to start the Christian Nazi Party, if you so desire. You can become a "reverend" for a few dollars through the tabloid classifieds and then further your political agenda with the world’s blessing, no matter how much it smears the name of Christ.
Jesus tells us in John 16:2,3 that there will be some who, in their error, commit atrocities and murder in the name of God: "The time is coming that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service." However, He informs us that these are not true believers: "And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." (See also 1 John 3:15.)
Jesus told His followers to love their enemies. So if a man puts a knife into someone’s back in the name of Christianity, something obviously isn’t right. If we human beings can detect it, how much more will God? He will deal with it on Judgment Day.
"I know that the Lord is always on the side of right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I—and this nation—should be on the Lord’s side." -Abraham Lincoln

Anyone can claim to be a Christian, but if they act contrary to the doctrines of Christ, they are revealed as hypocrites and liars who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.
The KKK is a racist group, but the Bible says "there is no Jew or Gentile, all are equal under Christ Jesus". Christ never called for the Sword of Steel to aid the Sword of the Spirit.
"If we claim to have fellowship with Christ yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth" 1st John 1:6
Besides, most of the Crusaders never were able to read the Bible. Back then the Bible was not printed in millions of copies like it is today, the Crusaders only knew what their ministers told them the Bible said, and many of the ministers were corrupted by power - not religion.
Besides, what is worse - someone who killed people 700 years ago, or someone who is still killing people to this very day? True Christians do not do those things you said because they live according to the Bible.

Sorry I wrote so much
Of course Christianity is not a peaceful religion, but there have been many peaceful and good people who have managed to practice peaceful ways in spite (not because) of it. Christianity is a violent religion. Islam is a little worse, but only in the present day, historically they’re on even footing.
I have little tolerance with the religious all pointing fingers at each other over who is the most violent religion. You’d think there was a contest or something.

No, don't forget the Inquisition, the witchtrials, and their wonderful "join us or burn" philosophy. There are many religions that don't believe in a "one true way" and they don't fight for their gods, only for their land, and resources and most people don't do that anymore. The violence is born of the "one right path" idea and spawns holy wars. Both Islam and Christianity have a history of trying to make their God everyone's God by force, when they stop pointing the finger at each other and just shut up and accept others, maybe this ugliness can be stopped.

I am black..and I am catholic...The actions of the Ku Klux Klan disgust me..but those are their actions...God wouldn't tell them to do those things...sometimes people make up their own rules in all religions..and in christianity you find some radicals changing the "Word" of God...You have to ask yourself..is it the man/woman...or is it the person's religion..How about the muslim radicals that said that they killed people in the name of Allah(God)...most of this war and fighting thats going on..its not religion..its pride and ego..and ignorance..So much sin...BTW..is there a such thing as sin in the Islam relgion? Christianity is like the main catagory..it has subcatagories under it...I'm Catholic and I might worship differently than a Baptist..or a Protestant..I do feel that the christian religion is a peaceful religion...but its about the person..Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian and he was against violence...he was a man of the church..he walked and talked God...but our President is a christian and he does the opposite...

Every religion can be peaceful to those who agree with their beliefs, and can be murderously intolerant towards those with different views. I'll get thumbs-down for saying that, but just look at the history books. Almost every single war ever waged has had some religion spurring on the hatred.

In brief, Muslims see themselves as the afflicted, not the afflictors; they feel themselves desperately on the defensive, not on the offensive; they consider themselves the objects of violence, not the initiators of violence. In sum, Muslims across the world consider themselves victims. In support of their position, Muslims will take their Christian and Jewish neighbors on a quick tour of the world. They inevitably begin with Bosnia, where nearly 200,000 Muslims have been slaughtered by Serbian Christians. Muslims are horrified and sickened by the fact that 22,000 Muslim women, aged 9 to 82, have been raped by Christian troopers.
Pwned.
Funny how Serena answers, "A religion if not practiced properly then it's misguided". Well honey, don't you think that's how Islam is nowdays? :)

Since the fall of Hebrew Jerusalem Christianity and Islam have lead the world in large scale violence. However, looked at in another way, as in nations, Britain, France, Germany and the Ottoman Empire have long histories of making quite a lot of damage to people, places, and things. To look at strictly pure violence you would have to look to Africa's many religions, tribes and races for shear murderous violence.
On the other hand . . . Tibet stood in near solitude and peace many centuries. The gentlest and most religion focused country in the world.

And the Crusades were a counter attack by the Europeans who were trying to stop Muslims from invading Christian lands. It was not done in a vacuum.

And you are trying to make us believe that Muslin armies never "raped" or "pillaged", or outright murderd unarmed Christians, Hindus, or Buddhists? Go back and read some more history.

Think of the Inquisition or the Salem Witch Trials.
Luckily, we live in a time when christianity isn't currently doing violence...now that Northern Ireland has settled down, at least.
