by in the hallway when he is with his group of friends. When I am walking by they all turn to stare at me and than as I am passing by he says "I went out with her. She is my ex". They all check me out and stare. He is the captain of the football team. He has a girlfriend and has been with the same girl for 1 1/2 years now. We broke up two years ago. He still checks me out, still looks, still stares, he started saying hi and stuff too. what is the deal, please enlighten me, someone please!?

Ugh! The same reason guys brag/lie about having sex with girls in the locker room. To seem more "manly".
Don't acknowledge him when he says that. He's just trying to get a reaction from you so he can look "cool" in front of his guy friends so he can say: "see - she STILL has the hots for me, can't get over me." etc....
Hard as it may be - when you see him - pretend he's invisible: You can't see him or hear anything he says. Eventually when he sees he can't get to you - he'll stop because he doesn't want to continue to embaress himself in front of his buddies.
