I'm 19, 5'10 and weigh 140 lbs. I need to gain weight for hockey.
I work out every other day, but I would like advise. Also, when is it vital to have an intake of protein? Before or after the workout?

After the workout is more vital. Protein helps the muscle rebuild after you have worked out. It is very vital to have protein when you sleep. This is where most muscle repair takes place. Look for a carb boost before you work out for energy if you feel weak during your workouts, protein won't help that.

You would need to take in at least 140 grams of Protein, as you weigh 140 lbs. Take protein shake 1/2 hour after work out. Eat tons of chicken breasts.

I'm not a guy but protein should be taken 3 times a day. As for your workout, most exercise programs tell you to exercise on an empty stomach or 2 hrs. after a meal.

Both. But don't over do it. Try increasing your workout reps and sets. Plus don't forget the rest of your body. Work it out, keep it clean, and stay away from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Don't even think of steroids. They will do more damage than your hockey game is worth.

Just eat regular food. Of course if you're exercising and growing big muscles, you'll have a bigger appetite, but you don't have to do anything unusual. The supplements cost money, but that's all they do.

After. Before it will weigh you down and make it uncomfortable to exercise. Also, the logic is you "replace the muscle you wore down through exercise."

Your coach could probably give you some advice on this, as well as checking out some fitness sites online.

Good luck with the hockey!
