There are usually a few common methods used for the identification of virus.
1. PCR (polyribosome chain reaction)- an advance but a slightly expensive method. In which the DNA of the particular virus is examined.

2.Electron Microscope. Am sure u've heard of this. Particles of the virus are observed under the microscope.

3. Viral Inclusion bodies. Some virus like pox virus, Measles virus and rabies virus produce an inclusion bodies which is very significant.
