I was wondering if anyone knew about the policy about coming home on the weekends or being able to see family when they go there to visit while in San Antonio for AIT. He is going to be doing the Medic training there.

I don't know about the Army, Marines or Navy, but in the USAF you cannot have your family at your training school.

Liberty is increased the futher along at the training school you are.

Do Soldiers come home after basic training. Some soldiers elect to do a split option training. Meaning that they will go through at the beginning of summer for basic, then do AIT the year following. However they remain in Defferred Enlistment Program while they are in the transition phase. If you elect to go during the winter, there will be a furlough over christmas and new year, so you would be getting 2 weeks off of training after basic. The other thing that you can do is Hometown Recruiting Program, where they will send you back to your home town and you will work in a recruiters office. Typically around 2 weeks, however this will be after you complete AIT or your MOS School. NOTE: The Split option program is only available to undergraduates of high school, meaning you can enlist at 17, as long as upon your completion date you turn 18 years of age, and in some special cases full time college students can go to split option training while on summer leave from college. IF you are under 18 you will need your parents to sign the waiver allowing you to enlist.

It depends.

AIT (advanced individual training) is a school environment. At any Army school, you have classroom time, study time, field time, and miscellaneous other duties - CQ, detail platoon, etc.

Since the medic AIT is fairly long, he will most likely have several weekends and / or holidays off during his training. If he has the weekend off, he can travel home for the weekend or have his family visit him. His family can also come to AIT graduation.

They have to live on base but some places do get out on weekends but they have to have someone sign them out and they can not operate a vehicle on base. My husband is in AIT right now in Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and i am staying at a hotel about five min. away so i can bring him here every weekend.

Under all circumstances, "Commander's descretion"

Most answers seem correct. But AIT is where individual abuses start tindividual restrictions.

Sure, if you were married you would probably be off base. What if you were cross training, you would perhaps be off base with your spouse. things loosen up considerably once you are out of basic training.
