My dentist says I have to go to the peridontist and have surgery done on my gums on 2 teeth because I have a pocket over a crown that measures a 6. He says I have started to have some bone loss and I need to have this done. Is it really, really painful? Your experience?

YOU WILL BE NUMB FOR THIS AND WON'T HAVE PAIN.

DIDN'T YOUR DENTIST EXPLAIN THE BENEFITS OF USING A WATERPIK IRRIGATOR WHICH CAN RESOLVE THIS POCKET AND BRING IT DOWN TO 4mm?

A 4mm POCKET IS VERY MANAGEABLE WITH PROPER HYGIENE AND DOESN'T NEED SURGERY.

I got a book on periodontal disease from a guy on the Internet. His website sounded a little bit hokey, but I did the cleaning that he said to do (although) I don't do it very regularly and so far, my periodontal disease has not deteriorated. With the booklet comes a cleaning device which is very useful even if you don't have any disease. It was inexpensive.

Primarily the cleaning method stops deterioration. I don't know if this would prevent surgery or not, but the author said that did the research in order to prevent having to go through surgery himself.

My dentist wanted me to pay $600 to clean under the gums (I have a couple of fives, but mostly twos and threes) and I said no. Over the past six years, I have not encountered any deterioration and I think I've had slight improvement although my dentist said that things don't improve.

The name of the author of the book is Vasilios Gardiakos and his book is called, "The Smile Method". The ISBN is 0964627116.

I just had this done. Your dentist will give you novocaine the numb the area. I found that the shot of novocaine hurt a LOT more than the surgery. I didn't find the surgery painful at all.

Good luck.

Have to agree with 1st answerer, the novocain is the killer, lol. An injection going into already compromised gums. The surgery is fine after that.
