Coming off medication is a rough thing--mentally, and should be your decision. I have epilepsy, and while I don't have seizures when I am taking regular medication(Carbotrol) last I year, I was weened off the medication because I had been seizure free for two years.
I, however, had seizures four months after being taken off the medication, and made the personal decision to go back on medication. It made me feel more comfortable in daily life, and I don't have to worry about having a seizure.
Now, you're not really playing with your life, as some people have suggested, but its really just a matter of whether or not you're comfortable with the possibility of having seizures again.

Epilepsy (sometimes referred to as a seizure disorder) is a common chronic neurological condition that is characterized by recurrent unprovoked epileptic seizures. These seizures are transient signs and/or symptoms due to abnormal excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain. It affects approximately 50 million people worldwide. Epilepsy is usually controlled, but not cured, with medication – although surgery may be considered in difficult cases. Not all epilepsy syndromes are lifelong, some forms are confined to particular stages of childhood.
The most common ages of incidence are under the age of 18 and over the age of 65. It has been estimated that about 1% of the population meets the diagnostic criteria for epilepsy at any given time, but some theorize that the prevalence may be much higher in fact.

Not if yuo haven't had one in 7 years. I believe you can go off the med if you have been seizure free for 2 years.
I had seizures every 2 years from the time I was an infant until I was 14. They use to classify me as epileptic, but I haven't had a seizure in 3 years. So now they have another excuse, they think I have vaso vagal syncopy? Or something like that. Who knows.

You are very lucky. I envy you so much. I have had seizures for 26 years and never in my life as a day gone by and i went seizure free.
But to answer your question, I would say no I would not stop taking them. For three reasons.
1) You cannot abruptly stop taking medicine that you have been taking for nearly ten years. You will get so sick. If the Dr takes you off he will schedule you.
2) Since you have been seizure free this long I am assuming that you can drive. Therefore, imagine if you are driving one day and you have a seizure and cause an accident. It would be your fault. Especially if you went off the medication without Dr.s orders.
3) What would you do if you started having seizures again once you got off of your medication?
Things to think about.
Once again I envy you so much!

Well i really am afraid to answer this cause it could be a life and death thing, so i am going to tell you that is going to be up to you, to decide if you are going to stay on a medication, for epilepsy. Now what was needed was was you on any kind of meds, for that 7 years that stopped the epilepsy seizures, for that period of time,. If you were not you could try to go with out any medication, but be really cariful, cause you are playing with your life. Now not always does the medication stop the seisures, so some people still have them even on the medication.
so it is really your decission. But be sure to wear an baclet or something in case so they know that you are an epilepsy, if something happens when you are trying to stay off of medications. Casue that could really save your life.
I was suppose to have temple lob seizures, and yes i have had a few, but it is really hard for them to tell cause they can be as simple as just staring into no where for a while, they told me all they could do it cut the skull open at the temple lobe, and they would hook up wires to it, and that was the only way they could tell for sure, cause it is a hard disorder to prodick for sure, unless they do that. I told them no thanks. I have been on a few seizures meds for a long time, but now for a long time i have not been taking any , and i have not had any trouble. I just thought that i would add this.
so you know that yes i took that chance too, not to let them do that, and not to take the medication anymore. But it is still going to be up to you, no one can tell you what to do m they can sugguest the doctors, but in the end they have to leave it up to you.
