well depends on how you fall on your back, whats surrounds the tree that you are falling from. you could have broken quite a few bones depending on the way you fall, break your back and severely damage your spinal cord thus possibility for quadraplegia or paraplegia, and possible death from the fall depending on what else is on the ground and how you land. but at least you were not severely injured from that previous fall.

OMG 50 ft? What were you doing waaaay up there? I remember being only 12 ft up in a tree building a fort and I fell on my back too, had the wind knocked out of me.

I think for children a possible spine injury but many kids who have fell flat on their back survive with mild or little injuries. It's one of the worst scenario cases when you fall. Either ball up or land flat on your back.

Children usually fall like that get injuries that are nerve pain the back and neck. Sometimes shifted spinal disks.

Well, if you catch yourself on a fall, the first thing I think of is, keep my head out of the impact so I can say something or think something. Bone structure is what I think of next. Hopefully I won't be too contorted. I really hope all my vital organs can take the rattle. Now, if there are any sympathetic people around to help me, nope, have to pick myself up, the best they could do is a gasp of horror if I broke my leg sideways to steal life.
