This is gonna be tough. There's no easy way to withdraw from it. You cant really take anything from the pain, because opiates like vicodin are really the strongest thing out there and thats what youre trying to get away from. Just take some time off from work and stay in your house and tough it out for like a week or so is the best advice I could give you. There will be itchiness, cold sweats, back pain, and youre gonna feel awful for atleast a week, but thats it. Unless you can just ween yourself off of it. Like take 5 pills a day for two days, then 4 pills a day for two days, then 3 and so on. You'll still have some withdrawal symptoms but maybe not as bad. Good luck.

i was taking 30 vicodin a day. 8 in the morning just to get out of bed. it got so bad that i craved the taste of them. i chewed them up like candy. it was the worst thing i have ever done. i tried to stop on my own for over a year. i tried cutting down but somehow ended up at 30 a day when i was only taking 12 when i started cutting down. So after turning myself into a rasien from all the steaming hot baths because that was my only cure for the pain. i checked into rehab. when i got out i still had alot of pain and they gave me ultram which is not a narcotic but still helped me ALOT. trust me the arthritis pain is like a walk in the park compared to full blown vicodin withdrawl. If you cant do a rehab. just find a way and find it fast.

Usually a minor tranquilizer like Valium is prescribed after gradual discontinuation of an opiate like Vicodin/Hydrocodone to ease the withdrawals and combined with a less addicting pain-reliever such as Ketoprofen.

Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

You should ask your doctor for a few vicoden so that withdrawal can be monitered by you and the doctor. It wont be so difficult to get off the medications.
