I have the windows xp installation disc, and It will run the setup. I then format in fat32. It adds the files, then comes to the point where it needs to restart. It restarts and comes up just like it did before installation. Basically it will not pick back up on installation. what am I doing wrong. can someone please explain the problem, or what I should do. Thanks!

well first of all let the installation start
then it will give you a message or something like that
computer is about to restart
at that time
you remove the disc from the Drive
otherwise i will again start to setup from the beginning
and i think that is the problem with you
remove the disk as soon as it shuts down and
so when it gets a restart it will work and start with the installed files

Try taking the XP Installation disk out of the CD drive after the restart. It should then boot to the hard drive and continue the installation from there.

DO NOT hit a key after the intial re-boot. Just let it go. I did that forever with Win2000 before I just forgot and it worked! If you "press any key to boot from CD" after you run the format you will just restart the instll.

And FAT32 is a crap idea. NTFS is a much better file system.

ok bypass into the Bios it relatively is the place maximum of your pc get's this is instructions on the thank you to funtion. whilst the pc boots you will get a show with lots of letters seem the line that proclaims to circulate into setup hit this key. it relatively is often the Delete key, Esc, F2, a large type of computers are diverse. bypass into each and every merchandise till you stumble on boot series. substitute the boot series to C: tension. Then go out and shop. the pc will reboot and a promt will arise. it is going to say. "Press any key besides from CD..." Press any button you opt for Then a blue screenw unwell seem. it is going to load drivers stick to the instructions and the instalation will start up. despite if it relatively is a sparkling tension i choose for to advise a known format with NTFS. despite if it relatively is a prior tension that has already been formated use the fast format function. notice to person formating will erase each and every thing and that i advise each and every thing. the only individual who could possibly retrieve the information could be the FBI and thier forensic communities. If it has long previous that a great way what the hell are you doing?

The problem is FAT 32. Win XP can only create a FAT 32 partition of up 32 GB. If you create and use a Win ME boot disk http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm you can partition and format a larger partition. If you used Win XP to format in NTFS instead of FAT 32 you won't experience this problem.
