I know a lady that has a male and female and 3 kids that age and younger. They appear to get along fabulously.

Most terriers are not great family dogs unless they are introduced to children while they are still puppies.
Most terrier breeds are stubborn, hyper dogs. They can be quite territorial and nip at those they feel are 'below' them in the pack (you are your dog's pack). Terriers need a strong owner who will not tolerate dominate behavior from the dog. There's a reason why terrier owners refer to terriers as "terrors."
Terrier comes from the Latin word 'terra' meaning earth. Terriers are "earth dogs" meaning they were bred to go after small mammals such as rabbits, badgers, rats and other burrowing mammals. They were bred to work their quarry until the handler pulled them off.
Definitely stay away from Jack Russels. They are not a good first dog and need an owner with a firm hand.

No, they are not good with little children at all. Look for a more family friendly breed. Trust me on this one. They are better dogs for a mature family. They can be "testy" around small childlren. They may even "nip" if annoyed. Some suggestions include Jack Russels, Corgis, Shelties, Labs, etc... or maybe a mix breed that is mostly Lab.

Terriers are known to be mildly aggressive, and very mouthy, so I don't think it's recommended for small children.

NO!!!
NEVER inflict human spawn on ANY defenseless dog!!! Especially small dogs! I would NEVER allow one of my dogs to go to a home w/children under 10 yo at MINIMUM!
