Trying to tear up hardwood without destroying it is pretty difficult and VERY slow. If the floor is nailed it will be a little easier than if it were stapled. You will probably break a lot of tongues, and have a hard time removing the old fasteners from the boards. If you start to tear out the floor and it comes out pretty easily for you, there's absolutely no reason that you couldn't re-install it.

Vinyl flooring does not live up to hardwood flooring. If you can afford it, get the hardwood. It's easy to clean, the look is so much nicer and it lasts a lot longer. Short term care is easy with the vinyl but in the long run you replace it etc. Hardwood never goes out of style. Even if you get a similar look to hardwood with the vinyl it's not the same feeling. Good Luck
