I am traveling to Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome during the second week of March. I was wondering if it is busy during this time and will I need to reserve tickets to the Uffizi museum and other attractions prior to arriving?

Thanks

It has not been busy in past years during the Winter season, but this year tourists have arrived by the tens of thousands already. You should make reservations to places like the Uffizi or Accademia-otherwise, you will be in line forever. It is 3 euros to make reservations, though-but well worth it. Call (39) 055 294883-this is for Uffizi or Accademia. You will need to specify which museum you want to visit, the date, the time, and the number of people. There is usually someone there who speaks English.

While in Rome, you should visit the Borghese Gallery. This number is (39) 06 32810. You can't make reservations for the Vatican Museum, unfortunately. Just get there very early. Doors open at 10 a.m.-get there no later than 9 a.m.

As for Venice and Milan, there are no museums requiring reservations in advance.

I had traveled through Italy from end of Feb to April in 2003. Cannot speak for Milan, but you will find no problems as a backpacker to find accomodations or entry into museums- yes even the Uffizi. However it seems no matter when you go to Rome, its always a busy city. But i never had to make reservations. The weather was a spring-like perfection! any more questions, don't hesitate to contact me at elipomerleau@yahoo.ca

I never waited in line for anything. It's all a matter of timing!
