This is a true story - my grandmother (rest her soul) was born on February 29th. We never knew exactly how old she was but reckoned she was born in the late 1800s. She lived alone for decades (my grandfather - her husband - died 20 years before I was even born) and there was always somebody from the family visiting her; I used to go once a week from the time I was about 8 (yeah, in the good old days when a kid could walk 6 blocks to their grandma's house in a major urban area unmolested - how times change!). Before she died (in the early 1970s), it was February 29th and I made her a cake and took it over. I asked her how old she was, and she said "I'm 22 or 23, I can't remember!". She actually only counted February 29th as her birthday, therefore only ever celebrated it once every four years!

Well, it's not a birthday but our wedding anniversary that's on the 29th. Years like this EVERYTHING we do is for our anniversary the entire month of February. Whenever we go out for a meal or buy something that's not a monthly supply it's "for our anniversary". It actually is kind of dull now when we get a leap year and can only have 1 day to celebrate.

My close friend Conner was born on the 29th. He has always celebrated on the 28th, except the year in which the 29th is present, then of course he celebrates then.
