when I went to iceland I just went to walmart before I left and got an international phone card there. I did not have any problems with it. I am guessing you will be calling the United States which is cheaper than calling other countries on the calling cards. just check the rates when you get the card.

There's a lot of "unlocked" GSM format cell phones for sale on eBay. When you get to Spain you just buy a SIM chip, insert it in the phone and buy some air time. Presto, you're ready to go. You can buy a SIM chip for each country you travel to. Each comes with its own phone number.

Believe it or not, the US is one of the most anal countries when it comes to cell phones. The ones we use are "locked." That means you can't change the SIM chip so you're stuck with whatever company sold you the phone.

In Europe and Asia you buy a phone and are free to change the chip, and service, anytime you feel like it. It takes about 30 seconds to change the chip.

Celfones are linked to the service provider in any country where you go nowadays. Just inform your celfone company so that your unit will be activated upon arrival in any country.
