I have a few books and surfed the net for info on nesting boxes suitable for Lovebirds in general and only found vague dimensions. I have not bred Lovebirds before, but have kept them and my family has been breeding various other birds for many years. The boxes we currently have are budgie (long flat shaped), small finch (cube shaped), large finch / Gouldian finch (shorter than a budgie box with an entry "room" and a nesting "room"), and Bourke parrot (similar to budgie box but bigger) nesting boxes. Would any of these nesting boxes be suitable for fishers and Masked Lovebirds? If not, what dimensions - more importantly - what shape boxes do they prefer? Do they prefer long flat, tall narrow or cube shaped boxes?

Can any one point me in the right direction either though their info or a website I can access? Thanks!

My birds currently live in a large avairy and just need some boxes to nest in. Just like the hollows in trees that wild birds use. The boxes to nest in are what my question is about, not the total living area.
I would never keep birds or any other animal in small cages. That's just cruel.

Hell I've been breeding....let me rephrase...they have been breeding themselves for about a year. Out of 4 that I had....I now have 11. Try a comfortable suiting one, that will add space when they spread their wings (they would also like to stretch in there). Best idea is to build it yourself. A rectangular box say a 9x13. That'd be great....about 6 by height! That'll be a 5 star hotel! The partner may also come in!

hi
My mum has bred Lovebirds (African Peach Faces) for the last 5 - 6years. The best nesting boxes she found were round or oval ones about the size of a football made out of a natural material like cane or reeds cos as you probably know by now they can be really destructive. plus make sure there is plenty of grass and straw and stuff similar so they can line their boxes. hopefully this will help you and you will have a few little birdies to enjoy.
