You going to work in the quarry? It's a very small town - it seemed like everyone works in the quarry. It's very pretty, but frankly, I would go out of my mind there. I really don't know Granville well - fished there a few times. Have you lived in a small town and did you like it? And, depending on where you're coming from, you are going to be a stranger there - do you have a regional accent- oh, my, they could really find you peculiar. But, if you like small town living, you may love the place - nice big old houses. And, if it's the job of your dreams, whatever shortcomings the town may have, may be worth it for the job of your dreams. Definitely visit first, before you pick up roots. Good luck.

New York has a northern, central and southern region. Each has its own unique features. Anyone who refers to upstate New York is saying that they are from New York City. I find the term 'upstate' very derogatory. The state itself pulled New York city out of bankruptcy. Granville, a city of 6,000 is not a small town. I grew up outside a town of 800 people. That's small. Glen Falls is probably a very nice area. I would recommend going up for a weekend to check it out for your own response.

Upstate NY in general is country- farms, mountains, etc. Granville is a small town with a population of about 6,000 people. It is in the Glens Falls metro area. I have never been there, but I would be inclined to think it is more suburban than rural. But don't quote me on that. Don't you think you should visit the town before you decide to take the job and live there?
