Jesus Christ is not a business but it is a business of poor members to have a building so they come together and worship God. Every group or organization has a building so why not Christians. Where do poor people go in time of calamity? Don't they go to church for shelter or help? Sorry I answer you with a question.

I believe brother Paul had it down when he preached he would work for a living while going from town to town, when he wasn't in prison! The local preacher should have another job, some say that preaching and research for your services is a full time job, it all really depends on what the members prefer.

Actually it was prophesied that many will go this way in second Peter.

2 Pet 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

That doesn’t include all of us, though. There are still some real Christians.

Unfortunately, these types of spiritual leaders realized how easy it is to manipulate others spiritually and con them. Many people are extremely vulnerable when it comes to beliefs. They want to be told what to do to make their life better and how to solve their problems and they want to be validated and told they're good people. Televangelists and the like know how to use that to their advantage.

It is proper to help support someone who does God's work, what has become improper is asking for more than you need.
