I was excited when I broke my first board, too, but remember board breaking is not about breaking things it is just a way for martial artists to demonstrate power. There is a lot more to the martial arts than just breaking boards like tradition, values, over coming fears, confidence, and self-defense. Understand this though, I am not trying to put you down for breaking boards. I think you should be proud of yourself and enter a martial arts school. I recommend finding an ATA (American Taekwondo Association) in your area.

Breaking boards is not a martial art thing. It is a parlor trick.
Exactly what does breaking a board do for you? It most likely boosts your ego which is the opposite of what training should be teaching you.

If you really want to end this ego high you are on go to a lumber yard, buy a real board and try to break it.
The board you broke at your seminar is most likely a board specially conditioned for breaking. It mean nothing.

Also, I do not agree with "seminars". Your inflated ego is exactly what happens to people who go to these. They are filled with false confidence.
Martial arts training is done day in and day out for your whole life. The boards you should be hitting to condition your hands should not break, they should be solid and wrapped with rope.
Sorry to sound so hostile, I mean no disrespect but your board breaking seminar sounds like a bunch of bologna.

haha I felt the same thing when I first broke a board. It's just so exciting cause before I thought you had to be hecka good to be able to break wood but it actually isn't. After you start breaking more and more it becomes natural and maybe a tiny boring (for me)

I wouldn't get too excited because you broke a board. It was porbably a well used one that they let u break to give you a bit of confidence which i think in your case is a bit dangerous as you have to learn to respect a martial art and you obviously haven't learnt that as yet. Breaking boards is just one tiny part of any martial art and as has been said before they don't fight back!!

This is called an ego trip and it will continue to climb until you do something stupid like doing a back flip off the roof of your house, then you will get very hurt, flash back to reality and walk away a wiser person.

You feel a sense of accomplishment when you break a board.
Just remember, as Bruce Lee said " boards don't hit back" .

That's to be expected. Just realize young padawan that the board is not going to fight back.

breaking people is so much more rewarding. better challenge, requires more reflex and hand eye coordination, and they scream too.
